This week's suggested topic of consideration: Attitudes Bringing Mindfulness
Dear friends on the Path,
This thing of being human and living our lives as fully as possible is a complicated project. We have been told that the practice of mindfulness can be instrumental in our efforts to work on this project. In our efforts to cultivate and nurture our mindfulness we have heard the definition, recited the causes of suffering, and experienced the foundational practices. What is missing from this “equation”? It’s the willingness, the attitude.
This week let’s focus on our attitudes toward achieving this state of mindfulness. How do you feel about cultivating and nurturing your mindfulness? Are you being dragged toward that full humanness with objections along the way or are you enjoying your journey toward it?
The list of attitudes that help make your journey joyful includes being nonjudgmental, patient, open to the richness of the present moment, trusting that you are the best expert on you, present with the mindset of not doing, but simply being, accepting of your life as it is, unattached to your habitual way of interpretating life experiences, grateful for all that is big and small in your life, and generous with your time, attention, and thoughts of others.
That’s quite a list, isn’t it? We suggest you talk about it, meditate on it, and share your heartfelt thoughts about it.
